Micro-Chop x DJ Manipulator
Tune into DJ Manipulator's livestream tomorrow for a special collaborative event.
If you want to support Micro-Chop you can follow me on Spotify and subscribe to the newsletter and YouTube channel. You can also buy me a coffee.
I’ve been a fan of multitalented DJ/producer DJ Manipulator for a long time. I first caught his work while attending a Nightworks live beats show in 2018. I started following him on social media and loved his beatmaking videos, especially his 30 Beats for 30 Days concept which he used several times to engage with his fans and share his work.
In the summer of 2020 I had an opportunity to interview him about his 2018 release The Synth Tape. We’ve stayed in touch in the years since and he’s always very supportive of Micro-Chop and my other writing.
Those who follow the newsletter likely know by now that I made a playlist called Less Than 1,000 Spins to highlight hundreds of amazing songs that could use more exposure and recognition.
When Kenan Bell hit me up about collaborating around Less Than 1,000 Spins, I loved watching him use his creativity and talent to make something new from the featured songs. After he finished his seamless mix of the 15 tracks - which he selected out of the 300+ available songs - I realized I wanted to collaborate with more DJs, producers, and writers to get a variety of unique perspectives on the music contained within my playlist.
So I reached out to DJ Manipulator to set something up on his weekly livestream. He has a deep vinyl collection and is incredibly knowledgeable about many genres. I knew right away he was the perfect producer to collaborate with.
On Thursday, April 11th at 6:45 PM Eastern Standard Time, DJ Manipulator will select one song from the Less Than 1,000 Spins playlist and make a beat out of it on his livestream. Tune in and you’ll get a front-row seat to his creative process, from sample selecting and chopping to arrangement and song structure. As someone who has seen many of his livestreams, it’s fascinating to watch.
You can watch on Facebook, Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube. I’ll join the chat during the livestream as well. I can’t wait. We hope to see you there for this special night. If you can’t make it I’ll send the archived video to subscribers afterward.
