I forget when and how I first heard of New Jersey-based producer/vocalist E-Conomy. We’ve had some nice interactions on Twitter over the years. I included his song “Tranquilo” in one of my daily 10-beat playlists that I used to do in 2019.
I also enjoyed his 2020 release The Moon Keeps Following Me.
In late 2020 I started doing sample challenges. He tapped into several and absolutely killed it with a distinct sound and unique approach to his visuals. Here’s one example. He also did an amazing vocal and instrumental cover of Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” for my Christmas sample flip challenge.
Recently I’ve been revisiting and discovering a ton of DJ and live beat sets on YouTube. There’s an endless archive of amazing stuff on there. I often throw on a set and let it ride when I’m starting the day or winding down at night. Take this excellent 2014 DJ set from the late New Jersey legend 45 King, for example. I was bumping this last night before bed.
Today I remembered watching a really cool beat set from E-Conomy years ago that he did entirely off his iPhone with a small effects box. Sure enough, it’s still on YouTube. I was in a rough space when I first saw it in 2019. I had taken a major financial hit and my car died. I also needed a root canal and felt generally stretched thin. E-Conomy’s smooth, energetic instrumental performance brought me some joy during that time. The music is impressive by itself, but his simple, micro setup adds a little bit extra to the whole experience.
I think it’s a very impressive piece of work and it only has a paltry 58 views on YouTube, so I want to bring it to your attention. I also want to shout-out The IZM., another very talented producer from New Jersey who recorded and uploaded the set.
I hope you get as much out of E-Conomy’s music and memorable live performance as I do. Take a look/listen and let me know what you think.
