Hello everyone. We are in the midst of a dangerously hot summer in many different parts of the world and mother nature’s wrath is frightening. Wherever you are, I hope you and your people are able to stay healthy and safe. Please take care of yourselves.
I wanted to write another new article today, but I decided to embrace the phrase “less is more” and simply recap some of my most recent work. I try to keep my articles to a reasonable length and fill them with interesting links, pictures, songs, and music videos.
Here are six of my latest. I hope you’ll take some time to check them out.
I wrote about Netflix’s series Archive 81, scary music, and the way a great horror score enhances movies and TV shows.
Veteran producer Mark Sparks (Mary J. Blige, Anthony Hamilton, Mýa, Will Smith, etc.) tried to put unknown North Carolina MCs on the map with his 1996 compilation Mark Sparks Presents Kakalaka Raw. Here’s my write-up of the project and a closer examination of a few featured artists.
I make a ton of Twitter threads. This is a collection of some of the most successful Micro-Chop threads of all time.
Former NBA player Tyrone Hill tried to break into the music industry in 1995 with All Net Records. I took a look back at the label and highlighted some of their best output.
You may have noticed I haven’t written as much over the past year. I wrote about my reasons for scaling back in late 2021 and 2022.
Finally, I published an in-depth interview with the incredibly talented multi-genre DJ, producer, and vocalist Pursuit Grooves back in March. I highly recommend giving it a read if you missed the story the first time around.
A few other quick notes: Gary Chun collected every Spotify-available song recommended on the Micro-Chop Twitter feed during the month of July and compiled them into one massive 12+ hour playlist. Huge thanks to Gary for this act of extreme kindness.
Twitter is by far the most active Micro-Chop social media account. I share albums and songs in my feed all the time. If you like the music I share on Twitter and write about in this newsletter, I think you’d enjoy my massive library of YouTube playlists. You can explore the playlists and subscribe to my YouTube channel here.
That’s it for today. I love to hear from my readers so please reach out with any feedback you want to share. As always, thank you so much for your support.
If you enjoyed this article and want to support Micro-Chop you can subscribe to the newsletter and YouTube channel. You can also buy me a coffee.
