People seemed to enjoy my last article which highlighted some tools for listening, research, and sampling on the Internet Archive. Given the enthusiastic response, I wanted to point people to another great resource that will likely interest many Micro-Chop subscribers.
This website is called The Good Ol’ Dayz. My favorite part of the site is a map feature where you can search for artists and releases by city and state. Most of the albums from the cite are from the ‘90s and early 2000s. Unlike the Internet Archive resources I shared, the site doesn’t have audio. Instead, it links to album covers, release dates, tracklists, and sometimes artist info.
I like to use it in tandem with YouTube to research different artists, albums, and regions, and then see what I can find for YouTube uploads. Some links on The Good Ol’ Dayz are broken. But with time and patience, you can find great music you’ve likely never heard of.
I wanted to share a selection of songs that caught my attention and a 17-track YouTube playlist of those songs. Most of them are out of print and not on streaming services. For each song I’m including the city and state the artist is from along with the release date.
I have some additional info and thoughts about several of these gems, but perhaps it’s best to share those in a subsequent article if there’s interest. I’m trying to learn that sometimes it’s OK to say less and let people enjoy the music.
As always, I’d love to hear your feedback and thoughts about the music I’m sharing today.
